Change of Role
Are you changing, or have you changed your role?
The following information may be of use to leaders that have, or are thinking of changing role.
When a change of role is approved by the appointments advisory committee and the DC the person concerned will be issues with a provisional role, before that role can be made full they will have to complete and validate part of the ‘Getting Started’ started modules within 5 months of appointment – a PLP and (3) Tools for the Role (Section Leaders) or (4) Tools for the role (Managers and Supporters)
The following is taken from the ‘Change of Role’ factsheet, the full factsheet can be found here
‘It is not unusual for an adult to change roles in Scouting. This may happen for a number of reasons, for instance, as a result of an appointment review, a change in personal circumstances, or a vacancy occurring.
This change of role may be from a Section Leader to a manager or supporter, or vice versa, or perhaps a Section Leader wishing to change sections.
All adults taking on a role, whether new to Scouting or changing a role, should be offered support and training to ensure that they are equipped to carry it out safely and effectively. In most cases a change of role is likely to result in a Personal Learning Plan needing to be completed.
If the adult is changing roles, particularly if they already hold a Wood Badge, there will be modules they have automatically completed by recognition of their previous training. The matrix at the end of this factsheet goes into the detail relating the modules to the change of role. The learner will then need to validate the modules that have not automatically been completed by the change of role.’
If you are changing Role you will need to complete (3)Tools for the Role (Section Leaders) or (4)Tools for the role (Managers and Supporters) this can be don online HERE –
To validate I or your TA, if you have one, will need to see sight of the online completion certificate and a witness statement from a leader within your section that you have run a game, a ceremony or an activity appropriate to the section you are involved with.
Details of other evidence for validation can be found for leaders at – or for managers HERE– http://members.scouts.org.uk/factsheets/APFMS.pdf
Due to the lack of Training Advisors we will automatically default all other training needs in the PLP to ‘yes’ training needed, unless/until you can produce evidence to validate the modules
Is your First Aid Kit Up To Date?
I use a scout based company for all my first aid supplies and they have now offered me a 7% discount code that all scouters/groups/districts and parents are invited to make use of. Their service and equipment is very good and all profit goes back into scouting.
The site is called Eastbourne District Scout First Aid Team and the web site is http://shop.edsfat.org.uk/
All you need to do is enter the code DEVON18 in the promo box to obtain 7% off most items on orders over £25 They will keep this running throughout 2018 and if enough people use it they will consider increasing the discount for 2019. I have set a code up DEVON18 which runs from now until 31st December.
It excludes High VIz Items, Badges, Defibs & manikins.
We are happy to supply to all of the extended Scout Family in Devon (Scouters, Parents).

THE HOLIDAY HOMES TRUST
I wonder if you can help us?
We are a small charity called Holiday Homes Trust and are based at Gilwell Park. You may have heard of us or even met us at the Gilwell Reunions.
We have a few caravans dotted around the country and they are all adapted for wheelchairs. Our aim is to provide holidays for disabled people and people with special needs at a price they can afford.
We have strong scouting connections having been founded by a Scout Leader back in 1969 and a lot of our volunteers are scouts.
We have a caravan based at Hoburne Devon Bay (Paignton) and are in need of a cleaner who can do turnaround cleans on a Saturday between 11 am and 3 pm. This would be from March to October every year.
We are willing to pay £25 for a good cleaner.
Do you know of anyone who would be interested or are you willing to help us by placing an advert in your newsletters or social media pages for us please?
Johannah Browne, Administrator.
Please note that our office hours are 8.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. – Monday to Friday
