On Saturday 18th November last year the current service crew met for the first time.
Andy the Warden, Seth and Reece started the process of tidying and clearing the campsite of the winter debris.
Seth and Reece were joined in early 2018 by Alicia, Tom and Louis and the service crew was born.
As a team these 5 Explorers have been super busy using all the power tools, the petrol driven equipment and even the ride-on mower! They’ve laid slabs, built sleeper walls, repaired and replaced fences and even installed the new Tomahawk axe throwing range just above the campfire circle.
As all managers know, a machine only works if it is oiled. The oil in this case is a well-earned tea break during their Saturday mornings at the campsite. Many biscuits, cakes and cuppas have been consumed.
The patio is the place to go for a break. Now we have built a timber wall to block the wind and repaired the log burner (so the smoke goes over the roof, not into your face) and now the sofas make it a really comfy chill-out area and a great place to meet.
There is always loads to do. Before June we need to repair the rope swing, cut the hedges back and paint the patio walls, build shelters and fences …..
Are you doing DofE or need a service element to any of your other awards? Well, if you are 14 or older and have Saturday mornings free we meet between 0900 and 1200 at Watcombe Campsite on Easterfield Lane, Torquay.
